About the Project
Raleigh Stormwater is installing green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) at Lions Park!
Benefits of GSI:
- Treats stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces (such as parking lots, sidewalks and roofs)
- Increase wildlife habitat through the use of native plants
- Reduce the amount of pollution that reaches Bridges Branch, which flows into Crabtree Creek

More about GSI
GSI preserves nature, soil, and waterways, and mimics nature by managing, treating, and reducing stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces, like roads, sidewalks, roofs, and driveways. There are a variety of GSI structure types, such as bioretention ares or rain gardens, constructed wetlands, green roofs, and more.
GSI aims to slow down, spread out, and soak up stormwater into the ground using soil, native plants, and stone. Additional benefits of GSI include improved water and air quality, reduced urban heat island effects, and increased wildlife habitat.
