River Cane Wetland Park Planning Process
Upcoming Engagement Opportunity
The Public Art and Design Board will review draft public art concepts for the park on Monday, May 27 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at John Chavis Memorial Park Community Center (505 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd). A virtual attendance option is also available.
For meeting access and participation details, visit the Public Art and Design Board meeting page.
While the core park design is now set, there will be continued opportunities for public engagement around the park’s public art later this year. Community input will be gathered during a public art engagement period scheduled for November 2025.
Artist Austen Camille is creating public art for the River Cane Wetland Park. Their work will be installed during the construction of the park and will be on display in 2028 when the park opens.
Current Project Status
The River Cane Wetland Park project is now in the Design Development phase, where the project moves forward into detailed design, permitting, and construction preparation. Everyone who will be impacted by this project has a right to participate, and we welcome all to stay involved throughout the planning process.

Primary park design features of the River Cane Wetland Park include; trails (both paved and natural), pedestrian connections to adjacent neighborhoods, an iconic boardwalk structure, play experiences, and a small sport court. The central focus of landscape interventions will be native vegetation and edible plants creating a food forest. The park and its features are intended to be universally accessible. Public art is also integral to the park development and should compliment the park’s nature theme, educate visitors and be interactive, when possible. Support facilities include public restrooms and parking, which are located at the park entry off of Kyle Drive.
City Council officially approved the renaming of the Kyle Drive Property to River Cane Wetland Park during their October 1, 2024 session.
