Kyle Drive Park Design Alternatives Survey
Kyle Drive Park Design Alternatives Survey
The following survey will focus on exploring the pros and cons of each concept, helping us to move toward a final design.
Kyle Drive Park is currently a vacant and wooded parcel, located at 4700 Kyle Drive in Northeast Raleigh. Wetlands and streams are abundant in the northern and eastern portions of the site, while the southern portion consists of hardwood trees and minimal understory. Below, you will see two alternative concepts for how the park might be developed, based on community feedback received so far. We appreciate your input to guide how the project moves forward!
There are many differences between the two concept plans, but also many similarities. While both plans feature a boardwalk crossing the wetland, Concept A features access to the wetland via a “boomerang boardwalk”, involving a wide centeral point that could accommodate social gathering and public art; alternatively, Concept B features access to the wetland via an “outerloop boardwalk.”
Concept A has an agricultural theme, with a community garden, food forest, and an outdoor classroom space, providing educational and gathering opportunities. Concept B is more focused on play, with the inclusion of a basketball court, traditional playground, and pockets of “adventure play” areas along the nature trail. Both concept plans provide a variety of trails throughout the park, connections to adjacent neighborhoods, restroom facilities, and parking.
