John Chavis Memorial Park - Phase 2 Planning Process
As part of the voter-approved 2022 Raleigh Parks Bond Referendum, funding is allocated for implementation of Phase 2 of the adopted Master Plan for John Chavis Memorial Park. Development will include a new aquatics center, expanded historic interpretitive displays, reconfigured parking areas, and stormwater devices. There will also be improvements to the Heritage Plaza, which will act as an anchor point along the South Park Heritage Walk.
Raleigh Parks Joint Community Advisory Group Is Active!
Due to the physical proximity and shared interests of three Raleigh Parks Bond projects - John Chavis Memorial Park - Phase 2, South Park Heritage Walk, and John P. "Top" Greene Community Center - one joint CAG will be created to represent community interests.
Current Project Status
Funded by the 2022 Parks Bond, John Chavis Memorial Park Phase 2 will feature a new aquatic center development for all ages with indoor and outdoor facilities for recreation, competition, and wellness opportunities with reconfigured new parking spaces. Phase 2 will also include upgrades to the Heritage Plaza to include additional historic interpretive displays and serve as the anchor head to the South Park Heritage Walk.
The City Council has recently approved the Designer's Contract and design work will begin this Spring. Be on the look-out for events this Spring and Summer, where you will have the opportunity to share your ideas about programs and activities for Phase 2.
We welcome your input and look forward to collaborating with you!
