Summer 2024 Questionnaire

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey. Your input is invaluable as we embark the new vision and design for Tarboro Road Park.  Insights and preferences gathered from residents and users like you will influence the concept development and design process for the park and new community center.

Your participation is appreciated as we work towards creating a new community center and park space that truly serves and represents your community.

Background and Project Description

Tarboro Road Park, 121 N. Tarboro Road in Raleigh, is an existing 3.2-acre park site established in the 1970’s to serve the surrounding historically African American community.  The park is anchored by a heavily used community center and the historic Saint Monica Teen Center.  Current site amenities include a picnic shelter, tennis courts, and a playground.

The community center has been incrementally enlarged over the past several decades to serve the recreational and educational needs of the expanding neighborhoods.  The current room layout along with the age and condition of the facilities are no longer adequate for the needs of the growing and transforming community.

The redevelopment of Tarboro Road Park is funded via the 2022 City of Raleigh Parks Bond in the amount of $29,500,000 for community engagement, design, permitting, and construction.

In November 2023, the Parks, Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board formally appointed a 13-member Tarboro Road Park Community Advisory Group (CAG) of neighborhood representatives.  The CAG will provide direct design and community representation input during the initial park planning process (known as schematic design).
